Waikanae Beach Holiday Park

We are staying in the tourist unit described by the camp as follows: 2 bedrooms (1 double bed, 1 set of bunks and 1 single bed), shower room, toilet, fully equipped kitchen and living room with TV. The camp will have laundry facilities for all to use except that we will need to pay for the machines. While there will be dryers, the locals tend to put their clothes on a line in the sun to dry! Linens, sheets and towels are provided.

From our units it is a short walk (probably 50 metres) to the beach. Also, the camp is a maximum 10 minute walk to the main street where there are cafes, restaurants, etc.

Maureen provided me with this website of the camp we are staying at: http://www.gisborneholidaypark.co.nz/index.asp

Flight Arrangements!

UPDATE!!! The 11:40 flight is full...there is an 8:30 a.m. or a 2:35 p.m. flight from Gisborne to Auckland. Either one will be okay!

You will need to make flight arrangements to Gisborne via Auckland! We are scheduled to be in Gisborne on Sunday, February 7th. There are flights from Auckland to Gisborne pretty much every two hours. After the build, we are scheduled for a cultural event in Auckland February 18th and 19th. So, in making your return flight, try to make the 11:40 a.m. flight on the 18th to Auckland. I'm currently in the process of making preparations with the local affiliate for a hotel and things to do while in Auckland.

While in Gisborne, we will be staying at the Waikanae Beach Holiday Park in self-contained cabins. The park is about a 10 minute walk to the city shopping center and close to the beach which is good for swimming and surfing. Temperatures should range from 26 to 30 Celsius.

Gisborne

Gisborne, the first city in the world to see the sun each day, is located on the sunny East Coast of the North Island. The Maori name for the district is Tairawhiti, which means "The coast upon which the sun shines across the water". Captain James Cook made his first New Zealand landfall here in 1769. The district has a population of 45,000. Gisborne is one of the sunniest and warmest places in New Zealand. Temperatures can reach 38 Celsius and an average 65 days a year have a maximum of over 24 Celsius. The expansive alluvial plain surrounding the city is ideal for the growing of maize, grapes, citrus and tasty subtropical fruits while the hill-country provides for the grazing of sheep, cattle, deer and timber forestry. Gisborne is well known for its viticulture and the making of award winning wines. The city is serviced by daily passenger and freight, air and bus connections to other main centres in the North Island. Gisborne is world-famous for its sandy beaches, surfing and summer holiday lifestyle. It is also one of the best offshore and deep sea fishing destinations in the country. There is a busy overseas shipping port, local fishing wharf, boat ramp and pleasure boat marina. Downtown Gisborne is nestled on the shores of Poverty Bay, bordered by rivers and the harbour basin where there are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants. Wanoa Family

We will be building a 4 bedroom home of tri board construction for the Wanoa Family. Tukaki and Makere Wanoa have 4 children living at home ages 5 through 18 (2 boys and 2 girls). They are a New Zealand Maori family.

Their lot is located in Gisborne, New Zealand at 12 Edelsten Place. If you go into Google maps you will see two empty sections together. We will be working the section on the right hand side.
